Market Risk
Also called Price Risk
Market risk is the risk of loss from movements in market prices such as interest rates, exchange rates, equity prices and commodity prices.
Explained
Market risk covers the value of positions that change with market prices. Its main components are interest rate risk, foreign exchange risk and equity price risk.
NRB's Directive 5 requires:
- policies and procedures to manage material market risk arising from changes in prices and interest rates;
- Class A commercial banks to set up a Middle Office to monitor, measure and analyse treasury risks. The middle office must be independent of treasury functions and report to the risk management department.
For capital purposes Nepali banks calculate market risk capital using the net open position approach under the Capital Adequacy Framework. Banks also apply interest rate, exchange rate and equity price shocks in their stress tests.
- मूल्य र ब्याजदरको उतारचढावबाट हुने मूलभूत बजार जोखिम व्यवस्थापनका लागि नीति र कार्यविधि हुनुपर्छ;
