Also called Stock Market, Aftermarket, दोस्रो बजार कारोबार
The secondary market is where previously issued securities are bought and sold among investors, mainly through a stock exchange.
Explained
How it works in Nepal:
- Trading takes place on NEPSE through licensed stock brokers, using NEPSE's online trading system (TMS).
- Investors need a DEMAT account with a depository participant, a trading account with a broker, and a bank account.
- CDSC clears and settles trades, transferring shares and funds on a T+2 basis.
- SEBON regulates brokers and the exchange and prohibits market abuse such as insider trading and price manipulation (Securities Act, 2063).
Functions:
- provides liquidity, so investors can exit;
- enables price discovery and reflects company performance;
- makes primary issues attractive because shares can later be sold;
- serves as an economic indicator through indices like the NEPSE Index.
