Primary Market
प्राथमिक बजार
Also called New Issue Market
The primary market is the part of the capital market where new securities are issued for the first time and the issuing company receives the money.
Explained
Methods of issue:
- Initial Public Offering (IPO): first public sale of shares.
- Further Public Offering (FPO): additional shares sold to the public by an already listed company.
- Right share issue: new shares offered to existing shareholders in proportion to holdings.
- Private placement: sale to selected institutional investors.
- Debenture and bond issues, and mutual fund schemes.
Participants: issuing company, merchant banker (issue manager, underwriter), SEBON (registers securities and approves prospectus), credit rating agency, collecting banks (C-ASBA), CDSC (credits allotted securities to demat accounts) and investors.
Primary vs secondary market: in the primary market the company raises fresh capital; in the secondary market investors trade among themselves and the company receives nothing.
